Osi Umenyiora's return to practice was short-lived.
The disgruntled New York Giants defensive end is expected to miss three to four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday.
Umenyiora, 29, was cleared to practice after he was examined by a knee specialist last Friday in Atlanta.
The pass-rushing specialist has been unhappy with his contract, claiming general manager Jerry Reese backed off on a promise to renegotiate his deal.
Umenyiora, who signed seven-year, $41.4 million contract in 2005, had 11.5 sacks last season and has 52 over the last five years.
