Defense Dominates In OpenerIt was a pretty day, but not such a pretty game at Giants Stadium this afternoon. A hard-hitting affair between two of the league's oldest rivals ended with the Giants ahead by six points which was not indicative of how the game actually went.Thanks to the resurrected defensive line and it's resident playmakers, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck, the Giants flustered the Washington Redskins' offense for the majority of the afternoon. Osi stripped Redskin QB Jason Campbell of the football in the 2nd quarter, picked up the fumble and ran it 37 yards for a touchdown to put the Giants ahead 17-0, a lead they would never relinquish. Tuck had five tackles and 1 1/2 sacks while providing constant pressure on Campbell. On offense, the Giants were up against a tough run defense featuring NT Albert Haynesworth. DC Kevin Gilbide countered by mixing his calls (30 running plays and 32 pass plays). QB Eli Manning went 20-29 for 256 yards with a TD and an INT. ...
