NFL Injury Report:
New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks was so banged up
for much of last season that he wasn’t the normal threat in the passing game
that he has been over the years. The wide out hoped to return to form over the
offseason, and he’s showing good signs of accomplishing that goal as he
continues to recover from knee surgery.
Nicks told reporters – including Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com –
that he’s hoping to return to his normal dynamic self this season to provide
the Giants and quarterback Eli Manning with another threat in the passing game.
"I kept it simple because it was my first time running
routes," said Nicks, speaking about catching passes from Eli Manning at
Duke University last week. "I wasn't about to go out there and -- it's
still early right now. So my biggest thing is that I want my presence to be
felt there with Eli. Because it is something that I do week-to-week. We're on
the same page."
This is a setting up to be a pivotal offseason and season
for Nicks, as he will enter the final year of his contract. So is fellow wide
receiver Victor Cruz, but the Giants reportedly consider Nicks as their top
priority when it comes to an extension.
