The New York Giants front office is feeling that there's a good shot at re-signing wide receiver Victor Cruz before the start of training camp later this month.
“Everybody I’ve spoken to expects that deal to absolutely get done, to a 100 percent degree of certainty, that Victor Cruz will have a new contract by the time the Giants open training camp,” ESPN's Chris Mortensen said on NFL Live Monday.
While the Giants feel that way, it's still up to Cruz to accept what they offer on an assumed long-term deal. Holding out of camp looks to still be very much of a possibility if things go south.
He can at least take a week or so off before things get really dicey. PFT's Michael David Smith writes: ' Cruz is almost certain to show up by August 6, as holding out beyond that would cost him the opportunity to become an unrestricted free agent in 2014. But it sounds like the Giants are very confident that this contract negotiation will be over before August, and that Cruz will be locked in for the long term within the next few weeks. '
