Chase Blackburn has been the Giants’ leading tackler the past four games, which isn’t too bad for a guy who was teaching middle school math seven weeks ago. Blackburn was signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Akron in 2005. He played six seasons with the team, recording 210 tackles, four safeties, and two interceptions. But after the lockout, the Giants declined to sign him, and he remained unsigned despite trying out for a handful of teams. Unsure of his football future, Blackburn began teaching math at Sells Middle School in Dublin, Ohio. He was preparing for a future in teaching until finally getting a call from the Giants after they were hammered 49-24 by the Saints in Week 12. The Giants had suffered a few injuries to their linebackers so Blackburn stepped in immediately and began contributing. He went from the classroom to the gridiron, intercepting likely league MVP Aaron Rodgers that Sunday. He had 7 tackles in the game, and he’s recorded 36 in six games,...

Giants CB Ross passes concussion tests, practices

New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross passed a battery of tests for a head injury and returned to practice on Wednesday. The same can not be said for Giants running back D.J. Ware, who has dealt with concussions in the past. He has not been cleared to practice and may sit out Sunday's playoff game against the defending champion Green Bay Packers. Both Ross and Ware suffered...

Eli Has a “Quiet” Day: Only Three TD Passes

Are we just getting used to Eli Manning being a playmaker? Are we taking him for granted these days?  Perhaps. His name didn’t get mentioned much after yesterday’s game, but yet he was the straw that stirred the drink again.  Three TD passes and 14-yard run to keep a drive alive. As usual, he didn’t play up his performance with the media, choosing to credit his teammates...

Falcons’ Offense Shutout by Giants? That’s Mularkey!

Sure the New York Giants have a pretty good defense but there is no way the Atlanta Falcons should have been shutout during their Wild Card playoff game against the Giants with all of the offensive weapons they possess. Seriously, if the Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator could take the league’s 27th ranked passer and put up 30 points of offense against the Pittsburgh Steelers’...

The defensive front: A difference in philosophy

Jason Pierre-Paul and the Giants defensive line gives them a sizable edge over the competition.

JPP not backing down

Jason Pierre-Paul doesn’t understand why everyone is so interested in his guaranteeing a Giants victory over the Packers Sunday.“In their right mind, who is gonna say their team is gonna lose when somebody asks you that question?” he asked during yesterday’s media session at the Giants’ practice...

The Giants’ Passing Game Can Rival the Packers’

The Packers entered the year with what was being called the best group of receivers the NFL had seen since the 2000 St. Louis Rams’ “Greatest Show on Turf.” The Giants on the other hand entered the year with question marks surrounding their passing game. Steve Smith had been their best receiver and had left New York for the “Dream Team.” Add the Jets signing Plaxico Burress...

Neutralizing Giants' defensive line a tall task for potent Packers

The New York Giants appear to be a different, more confident team than the one that lost seven games in the regular season. Will that be enough to upset the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in an NFC divisional playoff game at Lambeau Field?

The frozen face of toughness

Eli Manning became the main face of the Giants after shocking Tom Brady and the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. But there is another face of the Giants that Aaron Rodgers and the Packers will have to confront again in the bone-chilling hours Sunday night on the frozen tundra of...
