Giants release former Pro Bowl kicker Aldrick Rosas after hit-and-run

The New York Giants will be in the market for a new kicker. 

According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, the organization is releasing Pro Bowl kicker Aldrick Rosas after an incident that occurred earlier this summer. Rosas released a statement on Instagram thanking the Mara and Tisch family as well as the Giants coaches.

The 25-year-old was charged with three misdemeanors stemming from a June 15 incident hit-and-run accident. He's facing charges of reckless driving on the highway, hit-and-run property damage and driving while suspended for DUI of alcohol and drugs. 

Rosas could face discipline from the NFL, and the matter is still under review by the league. 

In 2019, Rosas struggled and made just 12 of 17 field-goal attempts. He was re-signed this offseason as a restricted free agent to a $3.3 million deal. 

New head coach Joe Judge, who was a special teams coach for the New England Patriots last season, could potentially sign Stephen Gostkowski as Rosas' replacement. However, no word on that front has been made. 

Gostkowski was released by the Patriots after missing nearly the entire 2019 campaign due to injury. It wouldn't be surprising if Judge signs him to a cheap deal as he's highly familiar with the kicker. 

Nick Folk, who also kicked for the Patriots last season, is a free agent and probably is being considered to be a replacement for Rosas as well.
