With his first NFL start looming Sunday, newly-minted starting QB TJ Yates got a bit of a boost today. Brent Grimes – far and away the best starting CB on the Falcons – will miss Sunday’s game after it was revealed he is going to have a minor knee surgery. The Falcons are already in the bottom third of the league in pass defense, and now either Dominique Franks or Chris Owens will start opposite the returning Dunta Robinson. Hopefully the Texans’ running game will get rolling again and it won’t matter who’s out there, but Yates may need every advantage he can get, even against a weak secondary.
On the offensive side of the ball for Atlanta, Michael Turner missed practice on Wednesday with a groin injury. He’s had groin problems in the past, so it will be interesting to see if it persists enough to keep him out Sunday. I doubt he misses the game, but if he is limited in practice the rest of the week, he may at least be on a play count ...
