49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters today that wide receiver Mario Manningham will begin the regular season on the PUP list.
“It’s going very well,” Harbaugh said, via the Sacramento Bee. ” … He’s really feeling now that he can put his leg in the ground and generate some power. It’s exciting, and he’s excited about it.”
This means the 49ers won’t be able to activate Manningham until after week six of the regular season.
This is a tough blow for the 49ers. Manningham is one of their top receivers alongside Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree.

This is a very interesting deal for the 49ers. The Chiefs dealing Baldwin isn’t unprecedented. He’s largely been a bust through the first two years of his career and the Head Coach/GM combo of Todd Haley and Scott Pioli that drafted him is gone. Andy Reid and John Dorsey aren’t making a mistake getting rid of him. They’re just trying to get the best 53 possible.
