Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam told reporters in New Orleans on Friday that quarterback Brandon Weeden will have to compete for the starting job this year. New head coach Rob Chudzinski said at offensive coordinator Norv Turner's introductory press conference in January that Weeden would not be guaranteed the starting job. Haslam agreed. "I think Norv and Chud have been very open that they like a lot of what Brandon (Weeden) does," Haslam said. "But we're going to have competition at that position. And I think competition makes us all better, and we'll see where that competition comes from." Weeden, who was a starting rookie last year, seems to be a good fit for Chudzinski's vertical passing game, but the team will still take a look at the free agent and trade markets. San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Alex Smith thrived under Turner when they worked together for the San Francisco 49ers in 2006. The team may look to trade him s...

Is Brandon Weeden a better choice than Colt McCoy?

The Cleveland Browns were hoping to have the same results other NFL teams with their rookie quarterback selection of Brandon Weeden. It’s safe to say things didn’t go as planned. Weeden struggled in the West Coast offense, throwing more interceptions than touchdowns. His play has left many questioning the selection in the first round. In his first game, Weeden had a 5.1 passer...

Browns Owner Jimmy Haslam III Says Don’t Look For Weeden To Be Handed Starting Job & Not Much In Free Agency

Jimmy Haslam III said the Browns will have an open quarterback derby. The team just won’t hand Brandon Weeden the starting quarterback job. Haslam III said the team is still committed to building...

Norv Turner and Alex Smith to reunite? Quarterback loved playing for former coach

Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner and Alex Smith know each other well, and that could be a tipping point to try and bring the 49ers quarterback to Cleveland. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, it’s a very possible scenario given the history...

Jim Brown says it’s time for Cleveland to get over “the move”
