HC Mike McCarthy reveals why Cowboys won't overlook Giants

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy insists that the Week 3 28-16 loss at the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 24 is just one reason his club isn't overlooking the 2-7 New York Giants heading into Sunday's home matchup. 

"I think Arizona is an excellent reminder, but I think really when I look at this particular game – you remember last year, we were a significant favorite against Houston, we all know how that game came down to the end," McCarthy explained during a Friday appearance on Dallas sports radio station 105.3 The Fan, per Logan Mullen of Audacy. "I think that’s just another weekly reminder that represents how hard the NFL is. We need to just really, really focus on ourselves."

Back in Week 3, journeyman quarterback Joshua Dobbs guided a seemingly tanking Cardinals side to what remains one of the most shocking results of this season. With that said, the Giants likely would happily take Dobbs on their roster today considering injuries have left them starting undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito at the position. 

After DeVito wasn't allowed to do much in the Giants' 13-10 overtime loss to the New York Jets on Oct. 29, he completed 15-of-20 passes for 175 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in last Sunday's 30-6 defeat at the Las Vegas Raiders. 

As of Friday afternoon, oddschecker listed the 5-3 Cowboys as 17-point favorites against the DeVito-led Giants. Dallas crushed Big Blue 40-0 at MetLife Stadium back in Week 1. 

"...At the end of the day, we need to go get this sixth win," McCarthy added during his comments. "I think the guys really practiced well yesterday, I was very pleased with the practice. The ability to have a healthy week of preparation gives you a chance to get off to a great start on Sunday, so that’s our mindset."

Also on Friday afternoon, oddschecker listed the Cowboys as third among the betting favorites at +600 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVIII. That number could change dramatically by Sunday evening depending on what occurs at AT&T Stadium earlier in the day.
