Everyone has been trying to dissect Josh Freeman’s problem the past few weeks. Some have said he needs more time while others have said the Bucs just need to get rid of him. What if the issue is as simple as the glove that he wears?  Sounds silly right? Certainly does. Freeman has been wearing a glove on his left hand since the Bucs and Panthers played each other in week 11. So let’s take a look at it from a statistical view first: Without the glove: In the five games following the bye week, the Bucs went 4-1. Freeman had a completion percentage of 59.5, a quarterback rating of 118, 12 touchdowns, and one interception. With the glove: In the past six weeks, since Freeman put the glove on, the Bucs have gone 1-5. Freeman has a completion percentage of 52.7, a quarterback rating of 67.6, eight touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Freeman at Denver 12/02/12 Now for a realistic view. The glove is not on his throwing hand. It should not be affecting his throws. We’ve seen Tom Brady and the Patriots blowout teams whether he wears a glove on his left hand or not. Going back to week 11, Freeman did in fact lead the Bucs to a come from behind win in overtime against the Panthers. However, he was very inaccurate for the majority of the game and has been consistently inaccurate ever since. Again, the glove on his non-throwing hand should not be a factor in his throws. Sure it sounds far fetched, but what if the coaching staff is trying something out with Freeman? Would they have tried to alter his setup with his hands before his throws? Perhaps it’s just something he has decided to do on his own. Freeman at Green Bay 11/20/11 Regardless of the theory (if there is one), Freeman nor the staff would say it’s affecting him since he has worn a glove before. Similar to when he did so during the Bucs 10-game losing streak to end the 2011 season for the majority of those games. The post Hey Josh, take the glove off appeared first on The Bay Cave.
