After spending the first six weeks of the season on the physically unable to perform list, Darren Sharper is practicing again and hopeful he might get to play as early as this Sunday. Sharper says he didn’t feel rusty at all when he hit the practice field this week. If anything, his biggest challenge might be abiding by the league’s new “don’t hit me too hard” rules. Coach Sean Payton is being coy about whether Sharper will suit up to take the field on Sunday against the Browns. The Saints actually have three weeks to decide if they will activate Sharper, place him on injured reserve or release him. Given the fact that cornerback Randall Gay was just placed on IR, I find it hard to believe Sharper won’t be hitting the field asap. Although Sharper’s been in the league since my freshman year in college, he’s still considered a beast among the current crop of safeties.
