Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is tinkering with the starting lineups in an effort to shake his team out of an 0-4 start.
Defensive end Cameron Heyward will start Sunday when the Steelers face the New York Jets. Tackles Kelvin Beachum and Levi Brown will compete for the spot left open when Mike Adams was demoted following a miserable performance in a loss to Minnesota two weeks ago.
Tomlin said rookie Vince Williams will see the majority of snaps at inside linebacker next to Lawrence Timmons.
There could be additional moves over the coming days, though they would likely be based on injury, not performance.
Tomlin said he's encouraged by his team's effort during the bye week and is anxious to get back to work.

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward saw a season-low 19 snaps in the loss to the Minnesota Vikings and if you are wondering why that was, it's really quite simple.
Prior to the season starting, head coach Mike Tomlin said that the third-year Ohio state product would be playing mostly in sub packages.
"We feel very good about Cam Heyward," said Tomlin back...
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is no longer allowing any of his players to play pool, ping-pong or shuffleboard in the locker room until the team starts winning.
A few weeks ago, the veterans on the team that were part of the 2008 Super Bowl winning team met and decided that teammates with less than four years of...
Mike Tomlin’s first press conference as the head coach of an 0-4 team was short, poorly attended and offered the usual clichés and the overuse of the word, “obviously.”
It also provided us with a couple of changes for Sunday’s game in New York against the Jets.
First, Kelvin Beachum will get the start at left tackle and will be backed up by newly acquired Levi Brown. This...

Some Pittsburgh Steelers fans have been vocal in their disappointment that former 2011 first-round draft pick Cameron Heyward has yet to crack the starting lineup in his third season, even though he is playing behind another former first-round draft pick in Ziggy Hood and a former Pro Bowler in Brett Keisel. Well, they can now stop their belly-aching, because he...
Prior to the game against the Minnesota Vikings, I wrote about how the Pittsburgh Steelers lack of defensive sacks and turnovers was tied to them not being ahead on the scoreboard and I warned that it was unlikely to change until the offense started to get leads, especially in the second half of games. Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed what I wrote during his interview on...
During his Tuesday press conference, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin might have dropped a few hints as to what he thinks the starting offensive line might actually be Sunday against the New York Jets.
The Steelers of course acquired veteran tackle Levi Brown via a trade last week with the Arizona Cardinals and Tomlin called the move a "critical acquisition" during...
Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media on Tuesday for his weekly press conference in preparation for the Sunday game against the New York Jets and updated the injury situation during the beginning of his talk.
Safety Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith (hip) is dealing with a left hip flexor injury that he suffered in the loss to the Minnesota Vikings and Tomlin termed him...
Season 4, Episode 30 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I start off the Wednesday show by reviewing what Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had to say Tuesday during his weekly press conference. This includes talk about the offensive line, injuries and the decision to start Cameron Heyward over Ziggy Hood.
In part two of the podcast, we are joined by...
ESPN's Jamison Hensley covers the AFC North, and it's mostly great news and notes on the division we love (and love to hate). He broke down 7 keys for the Steelers moving forward and they are quite interesting. Here they are.
1. Fix left tackle.
2. Lean on Le'Veon Bell.
3. Get Cameron Heyward on the Field More.
4. Tackle the Catch.
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark made a comment about Ben Roethlisberger’s style of play when he spent part of his bye week as an NFL analyst for ESPN. “You to have to protect Ben against Ben,” Clark said on ESPN. “Right now, we have to tone Ben down in a sense and say, ‘Hey, right now, we’re not a good enough football team for you to try to
Ryan Clark told Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he believes the winless Steelers can still make the playoffs. “I just believe we can win. That’s just the bottom line,” Clark said Tuesday. “I think we have the people in this room, the coaches (to win). Also, looking at our schedule, we’re not playing world beaters, we’re not playing gods. We’re
After the Mike Tomlin press conference, kick back and read what the Answer Man has to say about the 0-4 Steelers. Satisfyingly salty today.
At his post-bye press conference Mike Tomlin revealed another lineup change: Cameron Heyward will replace Ziggy Hood at left defensive end.
Evander “Ziggy” Hood has started 43 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers since being drafted in 2009. In that time he has amassed over 100 tackles and has 8.5 career sacks.
He is also in the final year of his rookie contract and he will not be starting Sunday’s game in New York.
Ryan Clark has been with the Steelers since 2006 and has been a key member of several top-ranked defenses...
A few weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers were hoping rookie linebacker Vince Williams would start to separate himself from Kion Wilson at the buck inside linebacker position and according to head coach Mike Tomlin on Tuesday, that separation has now taken place.
"He's been solid not only in performance, but in communication," said Tomlin about Williams. "I like...
