The Washington Redskins were a just a penalty flag away from being 2-0 on the young season. Even with the loss, there is no doubt in Redskin nation that RG3 is the real deal.

On the season so far, he has a 70.9 percent completion percentage while throwing for 526 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Not to mention his 124 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

But there are a lot of factors to why Griffin ended up a Redskin. It goes much deeper than the trade made with the Rams to acquire the second overall pick. Griffin was destined to be a Redskin, ever since 2007.

And Redskins fan can start by thanking the Eagles.

April 2007-Needing a quarterback to take over when Donovan McNabb’s time is up, the Philadelphia Eagles draft Kevin Kolb with the 36th overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft.

August 2009-Surrounded by controversy, the Eagles make another quarterback move by signing free agent Michael Vick to a two year deal. This leaves the Eagles with three franchise quarterbacks, McNabb, Vick, and Kolb.

April 2010-The Eagles, in the midst of a quarterback controversy, trade McNabb to the Redskins for a pair of draft picks. Ending the McNabb era in Philly, the Eagles are now left with Kolb and Vick.

April 2010- The St. Louis Rams, after a one win season, decided to draft what they think is their franchise quarterback in Sam Bradford.

August 2010- Once again, Brett Favre retires from the Minnesota Vikings. With his retirement, the Vikings are left with Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.

April 2011-Needing a franchise quarterback, the Vikings select Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder with the 12th overall pick in the draft.

July 2011-The Redskins are unhappy with McNabb and the Vikings are looking for a quarterback to bridge the gap between Favre and Ponder. Thus, the Redskins trade McNabb to the Vikings to help Ponder develop.

2011 NFL Season-Bradford plays only 10 games, leading to just two victories. They have locked up the number two overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

April 2012-With the Rams content with Bradford and Steven Jackson (no need to draft Trent Richardson), they decided to shop their number two overall pick. They agree to trade with the Redskins, who give them a couple future first round picks and a second round pick. The Redskins draft Robert Griffin III out of Baylor University.

September 2012- Griffin makes his NFL debut. His stat line: 19-26, 320 yards, 2 touchdowns; 9 carries, 42 yards rushing.

October 2012-January 2013- We’ll have to wait and see..
