With Robert Griffin III being jerked off by pretty much everyone in the media right now thanks to his killer Week 1 performance I thought that it would be interesting to go back and see how Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning faired in their first few games as a rookie. What you’ll see is that you definitely should not over react to such a small sample size. In Ryan Leaf’s first two games he led the Chargers to a 2-0 record. He went 16-31 for 192 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INT’s in his first game vs the Buffalo Bills and followed that up by going 13-24 for 179 yards, 0 TD’s, and 0 INT’s vs the Tennessee Oilers (yes, the Tennessee Oilers…not the Tennessee Titans or the Houston Oilers). Sure you’d like to see those numbers be better but most importantly is that the Chargers went 2-0. After that things didn’t go so hot for Leaf and the Chargers as they lost six of their next seven games. However, that doesn’t matter as we are only evaluating the first two games since everyone tends to overreact early...

NFL not happy with RGIII

The Redskins rookie is an adidas man, so he covered up the Nike logo on his warmups. Now the league has come out and let it be known that they are none too pleased about it.

Falcons prepare for Peyton Manning challenge

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Coming off a 19-for-26 performance for 253 passing yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in an impressive 31-19 victory over Pittsburgh, Denver quarterback Peyton Manning showed the football world last Sunday that while he might have been playing his first game in two seasons, he is no less dangerous a player. On Monday night when he visits the Georgia...

Sports Corn Maze Madness: Peyton Manning & More!

The Broncos went against the odds and signed Peyton Manning this off-season. The guy went out and played a hell of a game on Sunday night and how does the Greeley, Colorado community reward him? With this corn maze. What is it with corn maze athlete tributes? We showed you the Marshawn Lynch maze earlier in the summer, but this is getting out of hand. Just name a sandwich after...

RG3: 'Griffining' is 'pretty funny'

Robert Griffin III says ''Griffining'' is ''pretty funny.'' It's the 2012 answer to ''Tebowing.'' The ''Grifining'' pose was born during the rookie's first NFL touchdown pass in the Washington Redskins' 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Griffin was hit while throwing the ball, then sat up...

Peyton Manning's first start with the Denver Broncos arguably exceeded many people's expectations for him. There's no shortage of expectations for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons following their Week 1 performance. Did Peyton Manning spark an increase in girl’s named Peyton?

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is from a family that has some pretty unique names. His father is Archie Manning and his brother is Eli Manning, whose full name is Elisha Nelson Manning. However did Peyton Manning spark a resurgence of parents naming their new girls Peyton? According to babycenter.com, girls were named Peyton 258 per million babies in 1995 and when Manning...

Denver Broncos at Atlanta Falcons: Week 2 NFL Pick

Denver Broncos (1-0) at Atlanta Falcons (1-0) If it wasn’t for Green Bay/Chicago, this would be the game of the week. Actually, scratch that, Green Bay/Chicago was an incredibly ugly game that should have been the game of the week, but wasn’t because teams only had 3 days to prepare and played much worse than they normally do. I hate this new one game on Thursday every week thing...

After just one game, Osi Umenyiora is ready to call Robert Griffin III ‘RG3’

Back in July during an interview on WFAN, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora wondered why people were calling Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III “RG3”. In Umenyiora’s eyes, Griffin hadn’t done anything in the NFL yet so he didn’t deserve to have that nickname. So instead, he would call him “Bob Griffin”. Predictably, Griffin said he was fine with being called...

Week 2 NFL Picks Cautiously High on RG3, Looking Forward to Monday's 'Gravity Bowl' (Podcast)

OK, so Week 1 could have gone a little bit better, but that's why there are 17 of these. The NESN.com NFL picks podcast got off to a rough 7-9 start in Week 1, but that's to be be expected. After all, what can you really expect out of anyone in Week 1? One team that took the podcast -- and a lot of others by surprise -- was the play of Robert Griffin III and the rest of the...

1-0 Redskins Raise the Bar

Last week I predicted that the Redskins would make a game of it Sunday in New Orleans, but in the end their defense would not be able to control the quick-release and savvy of Saints QB Drew Brees. Nothing beats being loud wrong than being loud wrong about losing.Mr. Haslett? Well done, sir. Some Kid Named BobMillions of words have been written this week about the sparkling...

NFL Week 2: Five Must Watch Games

With week 1 officially in the books, and the Packers handling division rival Chicago to kick off week 2 last night, it’s time to shift focus onto teams looking to establish themselves a place in the drivers seat in their division and those scrambling to avoid the dreaded 0-2 start. Last week saw some big upsets and a few unexpected events. The Cowboys surprised the defensing...

Week 1 Rookie Report

The top impact rookies from Week 1 of the 2012 NFL season were names you would have expected, including a top-2 pick, two other first-rounders and three second-rounders. The only outliers were a sixth-round running back from Florida Atlantic who nobody even knew was starting until minutes before game time and a fourth-round linebacker out of the Mountain West. Check out Chris Tripodi’s...
