The Rap Sheet:
The two-year deal Marcus Stroud signed with the Patriots last week is slated to pay him a base salary of $1.2 million for the upcoming 2011 season and $1.7 million for the 2012 season.
The veteran defenseman lineman, who has been in the league the past 10 seasons, was due to make $4.5 million with the Bills this year, and $5.5 million next year.
That hefty price tag was one of the biggest reasons Stroud was released by the club, along with the fact the Bills didn’t want to stunt the growth of some of their younger players on the defensive line.
Stroud figures to add some depth up front, and play in sub packages when the Pats employ four down linemen. He will also provide another solid locker room presence for a young defense.
