Following the lead of David Tyree, Ike Hilliard has signed a one day contract with the Giants, and will retire with the team. Hilliard, who played eight seasons at wide receiver for the Giants, felt that this was the right way to go:
“It’s a no-brainer for me,” Hilliard, who played his final four NFL seasons in Tampa, said when asked about retiring as a Giant. “I gave great effort, my best effort I should say, every day for my 12 year career. Being a Giant was obviously more special to me than anything in my professional career, no disrespect to my four years in Tampa. But I had my start (with the Giants).
Hilliard, who ranks fifth on the Giants all-time reception list with 368 receptions, is the receivers coach for the Florida Tuskers of the UFL. He is looking to get into coaching. Always banged up, Hilliard still feels the effects of a 2008 concussion.
Still, despite the injuries, Hilliard will always be remembered as a nice guy and a guy who played the game hard. Best of luck, Ike.
