Don't let the sign over his locker fool you, Steelers nose tackle Casey Hampton isn't quite ready to get into coaching. The five-time Pro Bowler is, however, serving as a mentor to Steve McLendon and rookie Alameda Ta'amu while he recovers from offseason knee surgery. The 35-year-old Hampton did not participate during organized team activities or minicamp but did keep a watchful eye over McLendon and Ta'amu, who will carry the load until Hampton returns. Hampton says he expects to be ready by the season opener on Sept. 9 but doesn't expect to see the field much during preseason if he's cleared to play. The longest tenured member of the Pittsburgh defense had surgery in January to repair a torn ACL.
