Kawika Mitchell was placed on injured reserve at the beginning of the season and just reached a injury settlement with the Buffalo Bills.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mitchell has asked the Bills for his release, in an effort to sign on with another team in need of veteran leadership at his position later this year, once he’s fully recovered from the foot injury he suffered at the start of the season.

Mitchell was a solid player for the Giants and helped them win the  Super Bowl in 2008. Immediatly after, the veteran signed a 5-year deal with the Buffalo Bills and has been often injured.

Mitchell hasn’t done much for this Buffalo team on the field but Paul Posluszny stated “He came in and he was a great example for all of the young linebackers. He’s a great player, a great person. When we found out that was going to be the situation I was disappointed because ever since he got here he’s been a very influential person for me. So to not have him with the team it’s tough.”

When asked about him returning to another team Pos said “If that’s what he wants to do I’m with him all the way. I know he wants to be on the field all the way. I know he wants to be on the field more than anything. If he’s going to have the ability to do that and heal up fast and get on the field, then that’s the most important thing because I know he loves this game and wants to play.”

While the Buffalo Bills may have been premature on putting Mitchell on the IR it shows that the Bills didn’t have an interest in bringing him back to Buffalo.
