National Signing Day was about three weeks ago, but it’s never too early to start looking ahead to what the Class of 2014 has to offer the world of college football. Louisiana running back Leonard Fournette (St. Augustine HS, New Orleans) figures to be one of a few elite prospects who will be competing to follow Class of 2013 Ole Miss signee Robert Nkemdiche as the country’s top-ranked prospect.  Fournette has NFL size (6-1, 225lbs), and he reportedly had over 100 scholarship offers by the time his junior season ended. Fournette broke onto the Louisiana prep scene with 1,735 yards and 22 touchdowns as a freshman in 2010.  As his legend has grown, so has talk that he may even be a better prospect than NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk was as a high schooler player in The Big Easy.  Faulk’s old high school coach offered this opinion on the matter (via ESPNInsider): “He’s not as elusive as Marshall,” (Wayne) Reese said, “but he’s a pro-style back playing at the high school level. He’s 225-230, the weight the NFL likes their backs to be. And here’s the thing, I’m a track coach and I hold the stop watch. He’s a 48-49 (seconds) in the 400 meters. Once you get that train moving, you can’t stop it.” You can check out some of Fournette’s highlights from last season here: I hope you enjoyed both of the Alabama-LSU games in 2011, because early on it looks like we may get two battles between Alabama and LSU again in 2013: One on the field, and one off of the field for Fournette.
