Instant 49ers:
Offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye said earlier today he does not want to "disrespect" Bruce with a "token gesture." And Bruce does not appear to be the sentimental type of person who would want or need to soak up the plaudits from the St. Louis crowd one last time.
Football is a violent sport. It's not a sport for "token gestures." I'd expect Bruce to go out for the coin toss. Other than that . . . I would not expect much. He is certainly not in a position to contribute to the 49ers' efforts to win the game.
In other words, I would not suggest picking up Bruce for your fantasy team this weekend. It seems the goal is to give the fans at the Edward Jones Dome the opportunity to cheer him one final time before he officially retires.
