Sportsday:
At this point, Tony Gonzalez has four catches for 37 yards, a 9.25 yards-per-reception average. Two of the receptions were on the first two plays from scrimmage. Since then, he's got two catches for 26 yards.
While the Cowboys haven't used the same "bracket" coverage (a defender on each side of Gonzalez) much of the game, they have done a good job of taking him out of the mix. Bobby Carpenter jammed him up at the line regularly on passing situations. Gerald Sensabaugh and Orlando Scandrick did an excellent job when the Cowboys did go to double coverage.
If he doesn't catch another pass, Gonzalez will have less than 50 yards and averaged less than 10 yards per reception for the 62nd time in his career. His teams will fall to 28-34 in those games. You shut down a dangerous tight end, you give yourself an excellent chance of winning. Simple as that.
