Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars have fired head coach Jack Del Rio. Del Rio was widely viewed as a "lame duck" coach for most of the season, but many close to the organization thought they could remain competitive.
Despite the fact that the Jaguars have started rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert most of the season, Del Rio was unable to keep a grip on his job, which he has held for 9 seasons (8.5 if you want to be technical).
The Jaguars will be playing the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football, and it'll likely be the story line that ESPN focuses on in what's most likely going to be one of the more lack-luster MNF games of the season.
Also worth noting is that it is rumored that Saints offensive coordinator, Pete Carmichael, is the early front-runner for the newly open position in Jacksonville.
Update (8:54 AM EST): Mortensen is reporting that Jaguars defensive coordinator, Mel Tucker, will be the interim head coach.
