Terrance Knighton and Tyson Alualu have been fixtures as starters at defensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars for two years.
Knighton has started all but three games the last three years. Alualu hasn't missed a start since the Jaguars made him their No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft.
Things could be different this year.
Both are being challenged for their jobs by a pair of relatively unheralded players. D'Anthony Smith has never played a down in two NFL regular seasons. C.J. Mosley is an eight-year veteran who has started nine games in seven seasons.

Jaguars DT Terrance Knighton Blames Evelyn Lozada For Chad Johnson Getting Released
Twitter allows athletes who have opinions to express them freely without filter. No team rep telling them what they can and cant say, if something comes to their mind, they can type it in 140 characters.
But with great power, comes great responsibility.
Terrance Knighton, defensive tackle of the Jacksonville Jaguars, took to Twitter to give his thoughts on the Chad Johnson / Evelyn...
Even if Gabbert flops, Barkley won't be in Jacksonville
There's an elephant in the room that I'd like to address. It was put there by the national media, and I'd like to push it back out the door.
That elephant, of course, is the idea that if Gabbert doesn't pan out, the Jaguars will have the opportunity to draft Matt Barkley to replace him.
That's simply not going to happen.
The Jaguars are a solid team with...
Jaguars’ coach Mike Mularkey to donate for touchdown non-dances
In a day where touchdown dances have almost become more publicized than wins and losses (thanks ESPN), Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey has put down a wager to help curtail his team from celebrating.
Mularkey announced Sunday that for all Jaguars’ touchdowns in which the player hands the ball back to the referee instead of dancing, Mularkey will donate $250 to the...
Jacksonville Jaguars Potential Breakout Player of 2012: Derek Cox
The great thing about the NFL is that there are so many positions that every year, there is almost always at least one player who has a breakout year on every team, no matter how good or bad the team is. This is the part in a 32 part segment detailing one potential breakout player for the 2012 NFL season on each NFL team. For the Jacksonville Jaguars, that player is cornerback Derek...
Jaguars sign Holmes, waive Brown
Cornerback Mike Holmes signed with the Jaguars, who waived rookie safety Jeremiah Brown. Holmes signed with Chicago as an undrafted rookie in 2011 but failed to make the final roster. He signed with Indianapolis on Oct. 12 and was promoted to the active roster Dec. 6 before being waived in May.
QB Breakdown: Blaine Gabbert
Blaine Gabbert…..another struggling, average quarterback.
Blaine Gabbert had a pretty rough season last year. The Jaguars ended the regular season with a 5-11 record and Gabbrert put up very poor stats.  Gabbert only had a completion percentage of 50.8, not to mention he also threw 11 interceptions and had 5 fumbles.  He also only threw for 2,214 yards and ended the...
Jaguars set to have the best TD celebrations this season
Tired of the age old antics of showboating after a Touchdown, Jaguars Head Coach Mike Mularkey says he will donate $250 to the Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville for every touchdown scored without a celebration after. The Jaguars organization is in on the donations too, and they will match Mularkey’s $250 for a total of $500 each time.
None of this, and the Jaguars will donate...

Jaguars Waive-Injured WR Taylor Price, Cut WR Charles Gilbert
The Jacksonville Jaguars waived-injured former New England Patriots third-round wide receiver Taylor Price and cut wide receiver Charles Gilbert. Last year, the Jaguars were awarded Price off waivers as the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Jets all put in competing waiver claims with the Jaguars having the higher priority. Price was drafted 90th overall two years...
Gabbert must overcome the negativity
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert wasn't on the field for one of the most valuable football lessons he has ever received:
Don't let yourself become affected by outside criticism.
Five games into his 2008 freshman year at the University of Missouri, the Tigers were on the cusp of a No. 1 poll ranking. Starting quarterback Chase Daniel was the toast of Columbia...
Jaguars To Hold Off Activating RB Maurice Jones-Drew Once He Reports
It’ll be a surprise if Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew hasn’t returned by the opener because he will miss regular season paychecks if he takes his holdout into the regular season. But Mularkey indicated that Jones-Drew won’t be automatically put right back into the lineup, assuming he decides to return. “We have to obviously spend extra time with him in the classroom and see where...
Jaguars Release Veteran WR Lee Evans
The Jacksonville Jaguars released wide receiver Lee Evans on Sunday. Evans, who the Jaguars signed as a free agent in April, spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Bills before playing for the Ravens last year. Giants start year off with bad, bad loss
Talk about starting off on the wrong foot! The Super Bowl champs folded down the stretch, allowing the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars to squeak out a 32-21 victory. There were bad decisions made. Mix those horrid decisions with turnovers and you’re going to struggle all year. Not exactly the best way to open 2012 if you [...]
