Jaguars defensive tackle Terrance Knighton was forced to undergo surgery after injuring his eye at a nightclub in Jacksonville, The Florida Times-Union reported.
Knighton sustained the injury in or near Pure nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning and was taken to the nearby Baptist Medical Center.
The Jaguars confirmed the fourth-year starter's surgery and said the incident was being investigated.
"We are in the process of gathering information about what happened and are not able to further comment at this time," the team said in a statement. "Our concern and our focus is on Terrance and his health and recovery."
Knighton later returned home after being discharged from the hospital in a good state, the newspaper confirmed.
He will be assessed again Monday afternoon, with a doctor's appointment scheduled.
Several of his Jaguar teammates appealed for Knighton to make a safe recovery on their Twitter accounts.
