JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without starting outside linebacker Daryl Smith for the season opener at Minnesota. Coach Mike Mularkey ruled Smith out Friday, saying he had a setback with his groin injury earlier in the week. The Jaguars also likely will be without cornerback Derek Cox. He is doubtful for Sunday's game. Receiver Justin Blackmon (ankle) and guard Uche Nwaneri (ankle) practiced for the second consecutive day and are probable. With Smith sidelined, the Jaguars are expected to start Kyle Bosworth against the Vikings. Mularkey says Bosworth "has gotten a lot of work in the preseason games. We feel confident about him going in there."

Adrian Peterson: Jaguars ‘would have been terrible’ without Maurice Jones-Drew

With Week 1 of the NFL season already upon us, two of the league’s top runners are facing an uphill battle to get back into shape. Maurice Jones-Drew missed all of Jaguars training camp while holding out for a new deal, but he returned over the weekend without one. Adrian Peterson has been trying to make a rapid recovery from major knee surgery. While the Jaguars stood strong and...

Jaguars rule out Daryl Smith, Derek Cox

The Jaguars will not only be without Maurice Jones-Drew full strength against the Vikings, as they’re going to limit him to 3rd down work only about a week after a return from suspension, but they will be missing two key defensive players, Daryl Smith and Derek Cox. Smith was ProFootballFocus’ 2nd ranked outside linebacker last season, only behind Von Miller, while Derek Cox...

Jones-Drew, Jaguars settle on potential $1.2 million fine

A couple of weeks ago, a report came out that some of the Jaguars' players wanted Maurice Jones-Drew fined for his holdout. That's an understandable position, and according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, they got their wish. Jones-Drew, Jax did confid settle of $1.2m fines. Am told means much less, but MJD did forfeit some bonus $. Jax will get cap cred in '13 ...

Jaguars will limit Maurice Jones-Drew to 3rd down work this week

Maurice Jones-Drew has returned from his holdout and will suit up for the Jaguars this week, but anyone expecting him to be worth a fantasy start is going to be severely disappointed. According to Head Coach Mike Mularkey, Rashad Jennings, who was named the week 1 starter before MJD returned, will handle most of the early down work, limiting Maurice Jones-Drew to 3rd down work. When...

Will the Jacksonville Jaguars have any Bite in 2012?

2011’s 1st round draft pick stepped into the Jags line up as the starting QB, supplanting both Jacksonville fan favorite David Garrard and journeyman Luke McCown by Week 3.  On paper that may sound impressive, but considering that the “Teal Cats” finished 5-11, it could be (and has been) argued by many NFL experts that Blain Gabbart was not the best option as Jacksonville’s...

Jags officially activate Jones-Drew

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have activated running back Maurice Jones-Drew and waived second-year running back Keith Toston. The Jaguars had a roster exemption for Jones-Drew, who ended a 38-day holdout last Sunday. He is expected to play in Sunday's season opener at Minnesota. Toston, a four-year letterman at Oklahoma State, spent the 2010 season with...

Does History Favor Jacksonville Against Minnesota?

The regular season kicks off on Sunday afternoon, as the Jacksonville Jaguars will head to Minnesota to play the Vikings. The Jaguars are much improved offensively from a year ago, and on paper, this is a game that the Jaguars should win. Personally, I’m not really a believer that the past plays a part in the present with sports. Yet, it’s still worth a look. With that said...

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson showed some support to his buddy Maurice Jones-Drew some by also knocking his team.  He says the Jaguars would be terrible if they didn’t have MJD. Jaguars donating money for lack of TD celebrations

Maurice Jones-Drew has been briefed. He has heard all about Mike Mularkey's touchdown policy, the one in which the Jacksonville Jaguars coach donates money to charity every time a player scores and hands the ball to an official without any kind of celebration. Jones-Drew chuckled when asked whether he's going to comply with Mularkey's request. ''We're entertainers...

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Adrian Peterson and Maurice Jones-Drew's common bonds as star running backs have allowed the two to develop a friendship over the years. The two were keeping a close eye on the other's situation this offseason as Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings' record-breaking back, was attempting a comeback from major knee surgery and Jones-Drew, the Jacksonville...

Laurent Robinson’s Impact?

If you tuned into the Giants vs. Cowboys game casual viewers heard a lot from a relative unknown. Kevin Ogletree thrived in Laurent’s old role. Catching two touchdowns, and showing he can run some f**kin’ routes. Not a surprise as I predicted a big night from whomever was there. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Dwayne Harris. My apologies only human. Robinson will have a difficult...

PJD's Masturbatory Game Preview: Yo Gabbert Gabbert

FOOTBALL! Do you know what's happening Sunday? Football. Vikings football. It's - literally - been 37 years since the last day of Vikings football during the regular season. It'...
