There's nothing the Jacksonville Jaguars can do to prevent the worst season in franchise history.
It's on coach Mike Mularkey's resume now.
It also could lead to his ouster, along with general manager Gene Smith.
The Jaguars (2-12) clinched their spot in history with a 24-3 loss at Miami on Sunday, the team's seventh defeat this season by 16 points or more.
Not even Jacksonville's inaugural team in 1995 - a group comprised of mostly rookies and street free agents - was overmatched as often. Coach Tom Coughlin's rag-tag bunch finished 4-12 back then.
The Jaguars would have to win out to get that many victories in 2012. More likely is another lopsided loss Sunday when New England (10-4) brings the league's most prolific offense to town.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed defensive end Andre Branch and running back Jordan Todman on injured reserve and promoted receiver Mike Brown, linebacker Brandon Marshall and tight end Isaiah Stanback from the practice squad.

The Jaguars (2-12) traveled to Miami to take on the Dolphins (6-8) and their performance did not disappoint, if you expected to see horrendous, practically unwatchable football. It was a boring, ugly and downright tough game to watch. There were obvious mistakes, penalties and a lack of competitiveness throughout the course of the game. The end result was Jacksonville losing 24-3...
The Jaguars season is just about over, but for Maurice Jones-Drew it is important to get on the field before it ends.
Jones-Drew in the off-season had been trying to secure a long term contract, but ownership scoffed at that possibility.
Jones-Drew then found himself in a tight situation when he injured his foot early in the season. A player’s only recourse in contract squabbles...

Jaguars running back Rashad Jennings has still not passed all his concussion tests and is questionable for Sunday's game against New England.Fantasy Spin:With Maurice Jones-Drew and Jalen Parmele already on the shelf with injuries the team's best backfield option is Montell Owens. Owens was solid in Week 14, but could only manage 47 yards against the Dolphins.
According to John Oehser of Jaguars.com, head coach Mike Mularkey has not ruled out RB Maurice Jones-Drew for Week 16′s game.
Mularkey said team wants to work MJD some Tuesday. Says MJD’s pain has gotten a little better. Not ruling him out for Sunday. #jaguars

Lead writer Nick St. Denis and AFC East Daily contributors Dan Begnoche and Sean Donovan pick the Miami Dolphins' in-state contest with the AFC's Jacksonville Jaguars.Nick's take:The injury-depleted Jaguars get receiver Cecil Shorts back, but that won't be enough. Without Maurice Jones-Drew and a run defense on the other side, Jacksonville isn't much of a threat...
The Jaguars dropped yet another game in what has become an abysmal season. Still, the silver lining is that the Jaguars are still in the running for the first overall pick of next April's draft. It's in that spirit that I bring you the Chiefs, Raiders open thread. I'll comment as I keep an eye on the Chiefs. We're all big Kansas City fans now. Comments and thoughts...
After going through all the ugly details of the Giants' debacle at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons, New York coach Tom Coughlin delivered a message of hope to the defending Super Bowl champions.
If the Giants (8-6) win their final two games, they will be back in the playoffs either as the NFC East champion or a wild card.
While it sounds simple, Coughlin admitted Monday that...
From Joe Paterno to Tom Coughlin, Matt Rhule has been mentored by some of the winningest coaches in football.
Now, Rhule gets a chance to apply all of it at Temple.
Rhule, 37, who will leave his post as assistant offensive line coach with the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants to take over the Owls, was formally introduced on Monday on campus, after agreeing to a contract over...
If you’ve followed the career of New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, you would know that he has had to constantly work on his angry issues. He can change from being a grumpy old man to a lovable Grandpa, in a split second. His players have expressed that they enjoy playing for the kinder and gentler Coughlin but as a fan, I love angry Tom.
Below is Coughlin having a mini...
New York Giants players and coaches were understandably shell-shocked following the team's 34-0 shellacking at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons.
