At 4:05 PM EST, the Jaguars (1-2) host the Cincinnati Bengals (2-1) in a game featuring oddly similar defenses. The Jaguars' unit is considerably better than the Bengals in points allowed, but when yardage is compared, they're nearly identical in total yards, rush yards and pass yards allowed. With that in mind, it seems likely that the two sides' offenses will determine the winner of today's game. The Jaguars will once again rely heavily on Maurice Jones-Drew to carry a significant portion of their offense, but they have to get a big performance from Blaine Gabbert. The Jaguars' offensive line is as healthy as it's been all season going into week four's game, and it seems likely that the Bengals will put points on the board. The big question is, can the Jaguars keep up? Without announcing that I have a game plan for the Jaguars to follow, because I don't, I do believe the Jaguars should do their best to keep the Bengals off balance. There...

Gene Smith, Blaine Gabbert have 12 games to prove themselves

I didn't want to acknowledge the possibility that Blaine Gabbert was a bust or Gene Smith could be fired before the season started, but at 1-3, it's time to address that issue. Gene Smith took over as the Jaguars' head personnel man following the 2008 implosion. Since then, the best the Jaguars have done was a near divisional title two seasons ago. Now in his 4th...

Week 4 NFL Recap: Cincinnati Bengals at Jacksonville Jaguars

Blaine Gabbert would be the worst quarterback in the NFL if the New York Giants did not exist. 23 completions for 186 yards. Dude, AIR IT OUT! You literally have nothing to lose. Any win is a bonus. I pondered whether you would win any games this season. You have already far exceeded my expectations. So why are you so terrified to air it out? Is this how you played at Mizzou? Just...

Jaguars have been non-competitive in 2 home games

The Jacksonville Jaguars might want to burn those teal jerseys. The Jaguars (1-3) have been non-competitive in both home games this season, including Sunday's 27-10 loss to Cincinnati. They managed 212 yards against the Bengals, not a whole lot better than the 117 they totaled in a 27-7 setback against Houston on Sept. 16. Those lopsided losses - and the offensive ineptitude...

Jaguars' offense not showing up at home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars might want to burn those teal jerseys. The Jaguars (1-3) have been non-competitive in both home games this season, including Sunday's 27-10 loss to Cincinnati. They managed 212 yards against the Bengals, not a whole lot better than the 117 they totaled in a 27-7 setback against Houston on Sept. 16. Those lopsided losses -...

Bengals 27, Jaguars 10

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Cincinnati Bengals set up two short touchdown runs in the second quarter with big plays on a fake punt and Andy Dalton's pass to A.G. Green, then capitalized on the blundering of Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert to rout the Jaguars 27-10 on Sunday in front of 63,030 at Everbank Field. The Bengals (3-1) won their third game in a row after being...

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: Heroes and Zeroes

It is easy to look at a stat sheet and place blame.  But when the Jacksonville Jaguars are in the mix, that is way too easy.  When it comes to the surprising Cincinnati Bengals though, the stats don't lie. Jacksonville Jaguars: HeroIs it appropriate to assign a hero award to someone who didn't play? In this case, yes. The hero for the Sunday game versus the Bengals is...

Five Keys to Victory: Week Four

Riding high with the win over Washington, Cincinnati makes its second early-season trip in as many years to Jacksonville.  The Jaguars are still in a rebuilding phase with QB Blaine Gabbert, who hasn’t shown as much as fellow 2011 draft picks Cam Newton, Christian Ponder, or our own Andy Dalton.  He does have some weapons, most importantly the mighty mite, Maurice Jones-Drew...

NFL Week 4: Trendspotting the Jacksonville Jaguars

Maurice Jones-Drew, Blaine Gabbert and Cecil Shorts provided the Jaguars faithful with another last minute, come from behind, dramatic lead change. This time, the defense held on to a 22-17 win over Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. This was a good win for team that desperately needed one, and should provide a jolt of confidence for this young team as they prepare to take on...

Gabbert outdone by Dalton in loss to Bengals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Andy Dalton, A.J. Green and a stingy defense spoiled what was supposed to be a celebratory day for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Dalton threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, and the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Jaguars 27-10 Sunday for their third consecutive win. Dalton and Green burned Jacksonville several times, including once to set up a second...
