In the wake of his aggravated DUI arrest last Sunday, Jaguars first-round pick Justin Blackmon has millions of reasons to play well and avoid problems in the future. But it’s not the first contract he figures to sign that is most at risk if the receiver doesn’t put this incident behind him. It’s future contracts that have the potential to include mega-dollars. Under provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, the parameters for rookie contracts are so structured that there is not much wiggle room. The four-year deals for the top picks are guaranteed, with an option for the fifth year, and such things as escalator clauses and voidable provisions aren’t allowed.

Rashean Mathis and Aaron Ross to compete for Jaguars’ starting cornerback job

Rashean Mathis has been a starting cornerback of the Jacksonville Jaguars for years, but because he’s age 32 in August and tore his ACL last season, the Jaguars signed Aaron Ross this offseason, someone with starting experience from the New York Giants. The Jaguars official website confirmed today what many expected, that Mathis will have to earn his starting job back from Ross...

Jaguars release Aaron Kampman

When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Aaron Kampman in the 2010 offseason for 24 million over 4 years with 11 million dollars guaranteed, it looked like they were getting a steal. Kampman was just one year removed from being one of the league’s most feared pass rushers, with 37 sacks from 2006-2008. The only reason he was so cheap on the open market was because he was coming off...

He also writes for Indy Cornrows. You can see more...

Jacksonville Jaguar Fans Have New Signature Move: “Jaguaring”

Jason Whitney Oh boy. I guess I don’t blame the Jaguar fans. They have lost out on Tim Tebow twice, the team can’t sell out games, Blaine Gabbert is your quarterback and your best player Maurice Jones-Drew, hasn’t been offered a contract extension. I highly doubt this will ever catch on in a positive way, but at least I now know there are Jaguar fans out there.  I hate to...

Blackmon says he’s done drinking and will seek help

In a press conference that was neither streamed on the Jaguars’ website nor permitted to be carried on live television or radio, Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon apologized for his recent arrest for aggravated DUI, and he has sworn off alcohol, at least for the time being. “First off, I want to apologize to [G.M.] Gene [...]

The good ones learn from their mistakes

It's time that I fully address my feelings on Justin Blackmon's recent DUI arrest. First and foremost I want to say that my opinion is just that, an opinion, and taking it for anything more than that is doing yourself a disservice as well as myself. Seriously, take it as one person's view and nothing more. DUIs are no small matter, and the fact that this isn't Blackmon...
