According to Anwar Richardson of MLive.com, the representatives of Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best won’t indicate whether he’s been cleared for contact during training camp yet.
Richardson says we may not know until the Lions report to camp next week.
The good news is that Best’s back up Mikel LeShoure is ready to go after missing his entire rookie season with a torn Achilles.

Cliff Avril still doesn’t plan on showing up for camp
Getty Images
Detroit Lions defensive end Cliff Avril was a guest on the set of ESPN’s Sportscenter and he confirmed that he won’t be showing up for the first day of training camp.
“Probably won’t be there first day, that’s for sure,” Avril told ESPN. “I have to sit down with my agent and figure out when’s a good time, if we’re even gonna show up.”
When asked what...
Detroit Lions 2012 NFL Season Preview
Offense
It’s amazing that just a few years ago this team didn’t win a single game. They were completely devoid of talent and in just a few short years, Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew have reversed years of terrible decisions by the Matt Millen regime. In 2008 they didn’t win a game and in 2009 they won just 2. However, in 2010, they won 6, including their last 4 and last year...
Larry Fitzgerald: Take Calvin Johnson over me in fantasy because he has better QB
Larry Fitzgerald is widely recognized as one of the best receivers in the NFL, but the six-time Pro Bowler says he would take Calvin Johnson ahead of himself in fantasy football because the Lions have a better quarterback.
“Megatron and Matthew Stafford have a great connection up there in Detroit,” Fitzgerald said in response to a fan’s question. “They put together a phenomenal...
Lions' Williams in court for DWI in 2011
Detroit Lions defensive lineman Corey Williams appeared in court in Monticello, Ark., this week facing a charge of driving while intoxicated in an incident that occurred last year, according to the Monticello Daily News. Late on the evening of June 18, 2011, Williams was stopped by an Arkansas State Trooper for crossing the center line, according to the report. He failed the...
Lions give Schwartz multi-year extension
It looks like Rex Ryan was right about Jim Schwartz. The New York Jets coach said that he thought he and his Detroit Lions counterpart would have their jobs for years to come and the Lions appear to agree with half that statement. Tim Twentyman of the team’s website is reporting that the team and [...]
Cris Carter calls Calvin Johnson the NFL’s “most dangerous weapon”
What a difference a year makes. Last season, former NFL wide receiver turned ESPN analyst Cris Carter failed to name Lions stud wide receiver Calvin Johnson amongst the NFL’s “elite” receivers. He took heat from every direction and rightfully so.
Come Tuesday, Carter changed his tune. 100%. On ESPN’s NFL Live, Carter was asked to name the most dynamic duo in the...
Lions Having Trouble Signing First-round Pick OT Riley Reiff
Lions first-round pick, offensive lineman Riley Reiff, remains unsigned with rookies due to report Monday for training camp in Allen Park. Reiff is among 10 first-round picks who have not signed, details are scarce on the negotiations and neither team president Tom Lewand nor Reiffs agent, Neil Cornrich, returned messages Thursday, Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press reports...
Lions links: much more on Cliff Avril's sticky contract situation
Here's all the latest information from around the web regarding the Detroit Lions for Tuesday, July 17.
On Monday, the deadline came and went for the Detroit Lions to reach a long term agreement with defensive end Cliff Avril. While this was a bit surprising, as I wrote last week, the decision not to get locked in with Avril isn't particularly terrible. Here's more takes...

Cris Carter: Megatron is the “Most dangerous weapon in the NFL”
What a difference a year makes, right? It wasn’t even 12 months ago that ESPN analyst, Cris Carter, doubted the talents and ability of Detroit Lions All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson. You might remember a year ago when Carter said that ‘Megatron’ was a great video game player, but not an actual elite receiver. Of [...]
