Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press writes that Lions RB Jahvid Best “isn’t expected to play football again” after he was unable to gain medical clearance from doctors last season.
Best suffered a serious concussion while in college as well two more in 2011. Lions general manager Martin Mayhew mentioned that his biggest regret from last season was not finding an adequate replacement for Best.
“We need that shifty back that can come in and be that change-of-pace guy who can catch passes out of the backfield, a guy that can run routes and get one-on-one with a linebacker,” Mayhew said. “That’s what Jahvid gave us, a guy with some juice, some elusiveness.“
The Lions coaching staff is working with the South team at this year’s Senior Bowl, so they have should have a good idea of Stanford’s Stepfan Taylor and Florida’s Mike Gillislee overall skill sets. It seems safe to suggest that the Lions will consider finding a replacement for Best at some point during this year’s NFL draft.

Titus Young once compared himself to Barry Sanders, apparently forgetting that Sanders is one of the NFL’s all-time greats and that he doesn’t even play the same position as Sanders. Don’t worry, though, Young’s stupidity didn’t stop there.
