San-francisco-49ers-2009

The San Francisco 49ers Detroit Lions Sunday nighter is one of the featured games on the week 2 NFL schedule. Not only are both teams expected to continue improving based on having made the playoffs last year for the first time in many seasons. But, what we have here is rematch of two head coaches who clearly do not like eachother based on what transpired with the famous handshake incident at the conclusion of last year’s 49er 25-19 road victory at Detroit.

49ers team owner Jed York was at a team rally yesterday and while giving a speech to get the fans worked up he took a little shot at Schwartz. Here is the video clip:

I know many people are going to view these comments as immature since both coaches will say it’s history and don’t even think about it. But, I don’t think so… Nothing wrong with the team owner taking a shot at their upcoming opponent. Plus, this was done in a very joking matter that could not be considered very serious.

At the end of the day I still believe society overreacted to what happened last year. I don’t care who you want to blame… It’s football players and coaches get emotional and caught up in the moment. Big deal sometimes they don’t demonstrate the most class on the field. If you were looking for class in the NFL maybe your expectations of the people involved with the sport is way to high.

San Francisco 49ers close to setting NFL turnover record

The San Francisco 49ers have protected the football better than any other team in the NFL, which has them close to matching an NFL record. The 49ers haven't committed a turnover in six consecutive regular-season games, the second longest streak in NFL history.  Dating back to last season the 49ers can match the league record set by New England in 2010 on Sunday night against...

Detroit Lions Vs. San Francisco 49ers: Five Things to Watch

Last fall, the Detroit Lions got off to a fast start, hitting 5-0 almost before the leaves fell. That bubble was quickly burst by the San Francisco 49ers, who came into Ford Field and outmatched the Lions, pulling out a win with a late touchdown. As everybody knows, the botched handshake dominated all post game discussions, but both teams also played a close, hard hitting...

VIDEO: 49ers owner Jed York takes shot at Jim Schwartz over Handshake Bowl

With Jim Schwartz and Niners head coach Jim Harbaugh doing their best to downplay Sunday night’s rematch of last year’s Handshake Bowl, San Francisco owner Jed York is doing his best to add fuel to the fire. During a speech at a pep rally Thursday (because not just high school teams do this anymore), York told Niners fans “…if you shake somebody’s hand at the end of the...

49ers could be the new NFC favorite

Last week, the 49ers were able to hold off the Green Bay Packers, securing a win that could very possibly turn into a tie-breaker at the end of the season. With a win against the Lions at home, the 49ers could establish themselves as the team to beat in the NFC. This game is intriguing for a number of different reasons. The Lions have a very explosive defense, but their...

49ers excel at protecting the football

(Updates. With AP Photos.) The San Francisco 49ers have improved in just about every facet of the offense this season. But there is one area where they didn't really need to get much better. The 49ers are protecting the football better than anybody in the NFL, and their turnover-free play is reaching historic proportions. San Francisco hasn't committed a turnover in six...

Sunday Night Football: Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers Preview and Prediction

A week after taking down the Packers, the San Francisco 49ers welcome the Detroit Lions to the Bay Area. The Lions also won their opener, over St. Louis, but it was a struggle for Matt Stafford and the Lions. Stafford threw three interceptions last week compared to zero by Alex Smith, though it is, of course, foolish to form judgements after one week of football. This game is a...

2012 NFL Week 2: Odds Already Placed for a Harbaugh-Schwartz Handshake After Lions-49ers Game

Detroit Lions at San Francisco 49ers: Week 2 NFL Pick

Detroit Lions (1-0) at San Francisco 49ers (1-0) Both of these teams were in my overrated group heading into the season. The idea with the overrated/underrated teams was to bet the underrated teams and against the overrated teams until the odds makers caught up or I was proven wrong. Detroit didn’t prove me wrong as they barely eked out a come from behind win at home against the...

Can The 49ers Defense Stop The Aerial Attack Of Detroit’s Matthew Stafford?

The San Fransisco 49ers are faced with a tall task this week. If the 49ers are going to win their second game of the 2012 season the defense is going to have to stop Matthew Stafford, or at least slow him down. The 49ers defense is going to have to play with the same intensity their hear coach Jim Harbaugh has. The team needs to find a way to take it onto the field with them. Stafford...

Know Your Enemy - Lions vs. 49ers

LIONS vs. 49ers (Sept 16 8:20 PM ET) Could the 49ers look any better in Week 1? I do no think so, as they beat the Packers in Green Bay and they looked fantastic on both sides of the ball. Alex Smith outplayed Aaron Rodgers and the 49ers may have an offense that may stack up with their stacked defense. The Lions won their season opener and while Matt Stafford passed for 355...

GameDay: Detroit at San Francisco

Note: While these pieces are typically reserved for Thursday Night Football and Monday Night Football games, the passing of my Yia Yia (Grandma in Greek) this week had me swap Thursday’s Bears-Packers game with tonight’s Lions-49ers clash. Thanks for your understanding and prayers. If the NFL’s been really good at one thing the past few years it’s been giving us a variety...
