The Bucs acquired former Olympic silver medalist and New England running back Jeff Demps Saturday afternoon during the final rounds of the NFL draft. Demps has stated that he wants to run track and play football. But when will he be available for the Buccaneers? In an interview last month with Sports Talk Florida’s David Bauman, the former University of Florida track and field standout and then member of the Patriots said that he may not return to football close to mid-season in the video interview below. (At the 4:23 mark he addresses that.) Demps is no stranger to the Bucs and he is no stranger to TheBayCave.com. If you were following the constant reports last summer of whether he signs with New England or Tampa Bay, then you should very well know that Tampa Bay made a consistent effort to sign the track star. Whether the Bucs do in fact stay open to allowing Demps to run track and play football will be something they investigate as general manager Mark Dominik said via PewterReport.com. Demps could very well have a change of heart. However, he has been balancing both sports since his college days and sounds as if he prefers track over football. Good news is his contract carries a $405,000 salary in 2013 and $495,000 in 2014. The cap hit will not be a concern to the Bucs if they decide to release him. The post Jeff Demps won’t be available until mid-season appeared first on The Bay Cave.
