Jerry Jones said he was going to make changes, but could Jason Garrett be one of them? Jones let go defensive coordinator Rob Ryan in favor of 72 year old Monte Kiffin, hardly an upgrade in that department.
Word is Jones wants Garrett to fire his brother John, the Cowboys tight end coach, who is looking for other jobs, obviously being proactive. Seeing that tight end isn’t a problem area, could Jones be setting up inevitable conflict to force a parting of ways, according to Mike Florio of profootballweekly.com?
Along with the fact that Jones wants Garrett to relinquish his play calling duties, it also could be a direct attempt to frustrate Garrett into a difference in philosophies and an amicable parting of ways.
During the season rumors bounced around Mike Holmgren was seriously interested in the Dallas position, and with coaching vacancies filling up, the hunt for assistants will become more intense. However, entering the fray late with a new coach could result in hiring assistants that are 3rd or 4th choices.
It would be hard to fire a coach tJones initially backed, but if they both agree it can't work, then it's a solid media move by Jones.
