New York Jets general manager John Idzik called any speculation that the team might trade star cornerback Darrelle Revis "premature." Making his introductory press conference, Idzik was asked about the CBSSports.com report that said Jets owner Woody Johnson is reluctant to give Revis a long-term deal coming off the torn ACL he suffered during the season. Revis is scheduled to enter the final year of his four-year, $46 million contract. "I haven't even had the chance to sit down and thoroughly vet through our roster with (head coach) Rex (Ryan), his staff (and) with our personnel staff. I think it would be presumptuous to say anything like that." Johnson claimed he didn't know where the report came from, and that in his 10 years as the Jets' owner it has been his policy to never comment about contract situations. "Darrelle's a great player, he's very well known in the league and rightfully so," Johnson said. "But I think we're going to go through ... we're going to carefully go through the roster and evaluate it and look at it strategically as we move forward." Ryan, never one to be hesitant to offer an opinion, steered clear of fanning the flames of controversy concerning Revis. He was more disturbed that the report broke the day Idzik was to meet with the New York media for the first time. "I just thought it was interesting that on the (day of Idzik's) press conference, he waited all his life to get this opportunity and obviously deserved this opportunity," Ryan said. "John's really well thought of throughout this league and this is his day that he looked forward to and to put something out there like this when the man hasn't even had a chance to evaluate a roster I thought was pretty interesting." Revis wasn't at the press conference, but clearly knows of the report. "I'm speechless by far but more importantly I feel more upset for the jet nation for having to go through this!!!" he tweeted. "I guess we'll see how this plays out."
