The New York Jets drafted Quinton Coples in the first round, expecting the big defensive lineman to make an immediate impact.
So far, the rookie has been mostly quiet through three games. But Rex Ryan thinks Coples is about to break out - and thinks it could happen Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
Coples had a terrific preseason, leading the Jets with 4 1/2 sacks and raising expectations for a player with a reputation for making big plays at times but also struggling to maintain focus during others at North Carolina. Coples says he's learning that life in the NFL is more than just loving and playing, but also ''living the game.''
Once a wide receiver in high school, Coples is ready to be a key part of Ryan's defense.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Quinton Coples is a weed. And that's no knock on the sixteenth overall draft pick either. Weeds, like the dandelion, sprout fast -- setting up roots and, if not uprooted, continues to rapidly grow in strength and size.Much like weeds, Coples was not welcomed to many Jets fans' gardens -- instead desiring a prettier pass-rushing plant (Melvin Ingram...
The New York Jets were 30,000 feet in the air, flying back home from Miami and already planning for their biggest fear.
How in the world are they going to replace Darrelle Revis?
Revis is likely gone for the season with a knee injury sustained against the Dolphins on Sunday, and Kyle Wilson has the tough and unenviable task of taking over for the All-Pro cornerback.
Like many great nations, the collapse of Revis Island is detrimental to all of its neighbors. The ability of Revis Island to shut down any enemies was how the cornerback made his reputation. But, like many prosperous nations, the most impressive trait was how he elevated all of his allies.Sure, Darelle Revis can play suffocating man-to-man coverage with the best. And many great receivers...
There is little doubt that New York Jets corner back Darrelle Revis is the best in the league at what he does. The shut down messiah unfortunately suffered an ACL tear last Sunday, presumably ending his season. Head Coach Rex Ryan has different thoughts in that regard, however, and the Jets will keep Darrelle Revis off injured reserve (IR) in case they reach the Super Bowl:
The best player on the Jets is out for the year and the Jets are headed South in the standings. And the Patriots battle with the hot Bills.
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan indicated today that they won’t place cornerback Darrelle Revis on season ending injured reserve just yet, in hopes that he’ll be back in time for the Super Bowl.
Rex is awfully optimistic to assume that his team is going to the Super Bowl after only playing three games. But then again, Revis is the best player on their entire team.
The loss of cornerback Darrelle Revis may weaken the New York Jets defense a bit for their game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but it also creates more headaches for 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman to try to figure out how the Jets will compensate. Rex Ryan and his Jets defensive staff are known for the variety of looks they throw at an offense, and now they...
The New York Jets' multifaceted offense has the full attention of 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.
When the 49ers slogged onto the rain-soaked field at Youngstown State University, they were working on ways to contain Mark Sanchez and the Jets' regular offense while remaining aware of the challenge that backup Tim Tebow may present.
Having linebacker Patrick Willis...
NinersDigest’s Craig Massei and GreenandWhiteReport’s Rick Laughland break down the matchups in Sunday’s pivotal inter-conference contest between the 49ers and New York Jets. Here we take a look at what to watch when New York offense is on the field.
The New York Jets signed cornerback Darrin Walls to the practice squad and released wide receiver Jordan White from the practice squad, the team announced Friday. Walls was an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons last year. White was a seventh-round draft pick of the Jets this year.
San Francisco 49ers (2-1) at New York Jets (2-1)
Remember how the Jets’ chance to make the playoffs was on the conservative offense, good defense, don’t make mistakes, easy schedule model? Yeah, that doesn’t work if you can’t play good defense and without Darrelle Revis, they’re going to have a hard time doing so many of the things they normally do on defense. They also...
