New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says wide receiver Santonio Holmes ''might'' have broken a rib during the team's scrimmage, potentially leaving an already thin position in serious trouble.
Ryan says Holmes was hurt on a third-down catch Saturday night, but the coach is not sure how serious the injury is. Holmes was hit on the play by cornerback Antonio Cromartie, who earlier in the week made some waves when he said he thought he was the team's second-best wide receiver - behind Holmes.
Ryan says he's ''sure he'll be fine,'' and would know more ''later.'' Holmes had not yet gone for X-rays when Ryan spoke to reporters following the 90-minute scrimmage at Cortland Stadium.
Holmes had missed a few days of team drills with ''general soreness.''
