New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and center Nick Mangold have come out in defense of quarterback Mark Sanchez following Wednesday's report that some of his teammates aren't happy with him.

The report featured a comment from one anonymous Jets player suggesting Sanchez was "lazy" because there was no capable backup QB to challenge him.

Johnson lambasted the assertion on MSNBC Thursday.

"I’ve never heard (that Sanchez is lazy)," Johnson said on MSNBC Thursday. "(Sanchez) is the first guy in the building every morning and the last guy to leave. So, the last thing he is is lazy. ... He’s an NFL quarterback. That’s what you expect from an NFL quarterback."

Mangold also came to Sanchez's defense, saying the veteran pass-thrower was far from lazy while questioning the integrity of someone making such a statement anonymously.

"It was saying that he was lazy and didn’t put the work in, felt complacent," Mangold said. "It couldn’t be more further from the truth. The guy puts in more work and more time, cares more about the team than anybody else in that locker room. For someone to come out and say that and not put their name behind it really bothered me."

Sanchez threw for 3,474 yards and 26 touchdowns this season, but also committed 26 turnovers as the Jets crumbled down the stretch to fall out of playoff contention.
