NFL Injury Report:
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is likely to miss the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 8. The fifth-year pro out of USC is suffering from a deep shoulder bruise picked in the fourth quarter of the preseason game versus in state rival New York Giants.
Ian Rapport reports that although the Jets still have Sanchez at day-to-day there is worry within the organisation that he could miss longer.
Though it's unlikely Mark Sanchez will be ready Week 1, Jets still say it's day-to-day. Internally, though, a fear he could be out longer.

Sanchez has been in the midst of a quarterback battle with rookie Geno Smith. The 5th overall pick in the 2009 draft had a poor year in 2012, throwing 18 interceptions to just 13 touchdowns. His 2012 season will be remembered for a play known as the 'butt fumble' against the New England Patriots in a blowout loss.
Mark Sanchez may not return to the starting lineup now as new general manager John Idzik may want to usher in the new era with Geno Smith. Smith was selected in the second round to become the franchise quarterback the Jets have been searching for. A moniker Sanchez has struggled to fill.

Several media outlets have reported that the Jets' new general manger John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan are ready to "move on" from Mark Sanchez. The move comes as a bit of a surprise since releasing Sanchez will cost the Jets against the salary cap, but it is the right move for all involved, especially Sanchez. As a rookie in 2009, Sanchez played, well, like a rookie...
You have to love Joe Namath, because the guy is opinionated. His words are harsh at times, but usually they are 99 percent true. I don’t know what Rex Ryan was doing last week when he put his starting quarterback Mark Sanchez in the game, during clean up time. Rex Ryan seems to be flexing […]
The New York Jets may have no other option but to start rookie Geno Smith under center for Week 1.
Mark Sanchez, who was hurt late in the Jets third preseason game, could miss multiple weeks according to ESPN’s Ed Werder on SportsCenter.
This situation is ongoing as is the quarterback battle in New York.
Since the status of Sanchez is still up in the air so is the starting job...
The New York Jets losing Mark Sanchez due to a deep shoulder bruise late in last week's preseason game against the New York Giants game might bring more snaps for rookie signal-caller Geno Smith.
Geno Smith has his offensive coordinator in his corner, and that just might help him win the Jets starting quarterback position by default.
Ian Rapoport was on NFL Network Friday, and reported that Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg prefers Geno Smith over Mark Sanchez.
Mornhinweg reportedly is a “big fan of Smith’s potential and believes he’s the better option, whether...
Rookie Geno Smith will get his second start for the New York Jets, as expected, when the team plays at New England on Thursday night.
Coach Rex Ryan says Monday that Smith, coming off an 18-17 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday, will play against the Patriots after he was mostly solid in his NFL debut.
Ryan adds that Mark Sanchez, sidelined with a shoulder injury, will not play and the...
According to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com, some people within the Jets organization believe that rookie Geno Smith will be their week one starter with Mark Sanchez nursing a shoulder injury.
The decision to sit Smith confirms what we reported Sunday: Even though the Jets are calling it a day-to-day injury, there’s no guarantee Sanchez will be ready for Week 1. Some people close...
The Jets’ quarterback competition is far from over, even as the regular season inches closer by the day, but Rex Ryan may finally have his starter for opening day.
Geno Smith is likely to start for the Jets in Week 1, according to ESPN. The rookie quarterback has been inconsistent this preseason, showing signs of poise and accuracy from the pocket but also throwing three interceptions...
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan took a lot of criticism for having Mark Sanchez in the game when he got hurt and it looks like they won’t take any chance of putting Geno Smith at risk this week. NFL.com is reporting that Matt Simms will get the start this week after the team signed Graham Harrell late last night.
Considering Geno Smith, Mark Sanchez, and Greg McElroy(he’s still...
In the modern NFL it’s rare if a team carries three quarterbacks. This season the Jets, Raiders and Redskins plan on carrying four. At least for now that is.
The Jets will have Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith, Matt Simms and Graham Harrell. I could see Harrell getting released once Sanchez gets healthy. They probably don’t want Simms backing up Smith in next weeks opener.
With New York Jets' quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy hobbled by injuries, second year gunslinger Matt Simms has made a strong case this preseason to be the team's backup quarterback to start the 2013 regular season.
