Found February 19, 2013 on NFL Trade Rumors:
The New York Jets have announced that they’ve released OT Jason Smith, S Eric Smith, TE Josh Baker and LB Calvin Pace this afternoon. Brian Costello tweets that these moves will clear close to $24 million in cap space. Jason Smith was taken by the Rams with the second overall pick in 2009. He had a $12 million roster bonus coming his way and the fact that he’s struggled mightily to live up to his draft selection makes this seem like a fairly obvious move for the Jets. Pace, 33, had a cap figure of $8.56 million this season and was no longer an impact player for the Jets’ defense. He’s been very durable in recent years, but there was no way they were going to be able to keep him at that price. He should find at least some interest on the open market, but it’s doubtful that he’ll secure anything better than a one-year contract. Eric Smith, 29, was set to make $2.4 million for the 2013 season and carried a cap figure close to $3 million. Smith played only 329 snaps last year as a part-ti

2013 NFL Mock Draft: 3 QBs in the top 10?

This latest pre-combine 2013 NFL  mock draft takes into account where players could be drafted so far in the process. The combine will definitely have a major impact on where players land, and could even knock a few out of the first round. A post-combine mock will be compiled to see where players dropped, and which players ascended, but for now here is the pre-combine mock. A couple...

Jets reportedly set to meet with tight end Dustin Keller's agent

The New York Jets have already begun trimming some salary fat off their roster, and there's much more of that to come between future cuts and soon-to-be free agents. But the Jets are apparently still trying to make things work with a few key players on the bubble. According to ESPN New York's Rich Cimini, the team plans to meet with impending free agent Dustin Keller's...

Jets release Bart Scott, Calvin Pace

The New York Jets made several salary cap-related cuts yesterday, as the team announced the release of multiple veterans, including linebackers Bart Scott and Calvin Pace and safety Eric Smith. While the Jets have released Scott to avoid his full 2013 salary, there is a chance that the veteran re-signs with the club on a lesser deal. Scott’s agent said yesterday that he’s...

Darrelle Revis Takes Shot at Jets Owner?

On Tuesday, the New York Post did what it did best and that’s stir up controversy. This time, the Post took advantage of the current dissension in the New York Jets locker room, particularly one Darrelle Revis. Revis isn’t happy, and he isn’t being shy about it. The New York Post’s back cover on Tuesday featured a big picture of Revis with a caption that said “CHEAP...

Jets Intend To Shop Tim Tebow At The Scouting Combine

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, the Jets will attempt to ”shop” Tim Tebow at this week’s Scouting Combine. Cimini adds that they can’t officially trade Tebow until March 12, so it would make sense to see them aggressively pursue a trade in the next few weeks. Cimini ultimately believes “no one will bite” and they will end up cutting him loose before...

Revis: I'm a Jet until they tell me I'm not

NFL Teams Fake Twitter Followers: NY Jets Lead by Wide Margin

A few moths ago, The Big Lead wrote about how the New York Jets had noticeably more fake Twitter followers than any other NFL team. At the time, 38% of the Jets followers were fake while for other teams the number was in the teens and low 20s. Being a Jets fan I was curious so I decided to do a follow-up to see if the numbers had changed at all in the past 3 months and I was shocked...

Dwight Freeney: New York Jets a Great Fit For Former Colts Stud

New York Jets fans, Dwight Freeney was recently cut by the Indianapolis Colts after 11 seasons and 107.5 sacks. He is the edge pass-rusher the Jets have never had in the Rex Ryan era! When looking at Freeney, think Michael Strahan, more on that thought in a moment. The Jets have tried and missed on previous edge rushers in the way of Calvin Pace, who in essentially the same number...

Tim Tebow to Speak at Church With Anti-Gay, Anti-Semitic Pastor, Which Could Impact Next Move in NFL Career

Tim Tebow has been known to wear Bible verses on his eye black and to use his lofty status in the sports world to promote equality among other Christian principles. But his most recent decision seems to contradict those beliefs. Tebow has agreed to be the guest speaker at the First Baptist Dallas Church, where reverend Robert Jeffress is known to make some harsh homophobic and anti...

With all of these roster moves...
