As you might've heard, the Jets are virtually certain to release Tim Tebow, but not before exhausting all trade opportunities. If they seem desperate to unload their personal punt protector ... well, that's because they are.

Really, really desperate.

As Mike Klis of the Denver Post writes, the Jets would like something -- anything -- in return for Tebow.

Falling under the definition of "something" as compensation includes "A seventh-round draft pick" or "A drawer of tight-fitting Jockey undershirts."

It seems harsh, but in reality, Gang Green would be lucky to get that much. Tebow has garnered absolutely zero trade interest, primarily because a potential partner would have to pay at least a portion of the $1.531 million payment from Tebow's rookie contract.

The money stems from his salary structure, which New York willingly took on when they traded for Tebow last offseason. If they released him outright, they'd be on the hook for the full amount. That's a last resort for the cap-strapped Jets.

But they don't have any other options. No team is going to trade for Tebow, knowing he's squarely on the chopping block. It's become obvious that Tebow isn't a part of the Jets' long-term plans, nor is he a lock to remain in the NFL.

Following this month's NFL draft, Tebow will finally be given his walking papers and the Jets will be forced to pay. Shirtless and all.
