New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan vowed to tone down his act next season.
Ryan told New York radio station WFAN-660 he mistakenly thought that by guaranteeting the Jets would win the Super Bowl, it would put the onus on him.
Last week, Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson was critical of Ryan's bravado, saying it provides added motivation for opponents.
"When I guaranteed we'd get it done this year, I thought the bull's-eye was going on my back. That's where I wanted to place it," Ryan said. "What I didn't anticipate was, I put added pressure on our players when I wanted to put the pressure on myself. That's something I obviously have to learn from."
Ryan did not agree with Tomlinson's assessment that the Jets' locker room was fractured, but acknowledged that quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide receiver Santonio Holmes need to patch up their relationship.
