San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is a hard-nosed coach and there’s no doubt that he expects his players to be the same way. So far in the month of June, there are four players that he has slated as guys that can play both offense and defense this season.
Will Tukuafu who weighs 293 pounds and was listed as a defensive tackle when he entered the NFL, has been used as a fullback during OTA’s
Harbaugh also has defensive lineman Demarcus Dobbs playing some tight end–and both Cory Nelms and Ben Hannula, who play cornerback–have been catching passes from quarterback Alex Smith.
“The greater share of why we’re doing that is to utilize a guy’s talent on the other side of the ball, possibly find a player that’s a three-way player to play defense, offense and special teams,” Harbaugh told The Associated Press, per NFL.com. “That’s the 98 percent of it.”
The great thing about having guys play more than one position, is that it enables them to fill more than one need

49ers’ running back coach Tom Rathman says one back won’t carry the load
What I already assumed, after the 49ers used a 2nd round pick on LaMichael James and signed Brandon Jacobs in the offseason, was confirmed today by 49ers running back coach Tom Rathman. Rathman admitted that one running back would not carry the load for the 49ers this year, which makes sense because the 49ers have 4 running backs, Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James, and...
San Francisco 49ers: Most Overrated and Underrated Players
The San Francisco 49ers went from virtually nothing to one of the most popular teams in the league in 2011, starting with a pre-season confrontation with the Oakland Raiders and finishing with an appearance in the NFC championship game.
A great season resulted in several of their players being named to the Pro Bowl. Some deserving, maybe not so much for others. This article will...
Davis, Walker push each other with 49ers
If Vernon Davis stays after practice to push the weighted sled, Delanie Walker is usually right there with him.
They both were among the last 49ers players to leave the field following Thursday's practice. San Francisco's talented tight end tandem came into the league together in 2006, and these two have fueled each other through six NFL seasons.
While much of the focus...
49ers’ Head Coach Jim Harbaugh praises Vernon Davis
Head Coach Jim Harbaugh singled out Vernon Davis today as someone having “an outstanding offseason.” This is just a continuation of what Davis did down the stretch last year. In his last 5 games, including playoffs, he had 28 catches for 536 yards and 5 touchdowns. Davis struggled with the playbook earlier in the season, which he himself admits. However, before last year when...
49ers Won't Ask RB LaMichael James To Add-On Weight
49ers running backs coach Tom Rathman told the Sacramento Bee that while he likes the depth the team has at the position, "I don't know if everyone's going to be happy with the time that they get." The Niners added rookie LaMichael James to a group that includes long-time starter Frank Gore, veteran Brandon Jacobs and second-year rusher Kendall Hunter, among others...
Young Giants fan offers Brandon Jacobs $3.36 to return to NY (PIC)
As we all know by now, after winning his second Super Bowl Championship as a member of the NY Giants this year, RB Brandon Jacobs decided to head for greener pastures and sign with the 49ers. And by “greener”, we mean a place where he could get “more money”.
Well, one young Giants fan took that to heart, and decided to try and do something about it. When his parents informed...
Young Giants fan sends money to Jacobs to stay
New 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs received a letter this week from a 6-year-old boy named Joseph that included $3.36 in cash from his piggy bank - the child's contribution to try to keep Jacobs with the reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
The boy's mother, Julie Armento, wrote that she explained to her son that the Giants didn't have enough money to bring...
Brandon Jacobs planning to visit the boy who sent him money

A six-year old New York Giants fan named Joe sent San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs a letter with $3.36 in it so he’d be able to re-sign with the Giants.
Of course it unfortunately didn’t matter how much money the boy sent Jacobs, he couldn’t work anything out with the Giants and ended up signing with the 49ers.

Vernon Davis: 49ers should be Super Bowl favorites
After coming heartbreakingly close to reaching the Super Bowl, Vernon Davis believes the San Francisco 49ers will pick up right where they left off — and then some. In a Q&A session with the San Jose Mercury News on Tuesday, the All-Pro tight end said he “strongly” feels San Fran will reach the Super Bowl in 2012.

49ers RB Brandon Jacobs Will Be Asked To Pack It Up Inside And Run Over Guys
The Niners added Brandon Jacobs to a group that includes long-time starter Frank Gore, second-year rusher Kendall Hunter and rookie LaMichael James, among others. "Evaluating him, I thought he was a very physical runner," Rathman said of Jacobs. "He has the ability to do what we're looking for him to do. He has to understand who he is as a player. We need him to...
OTA notebook: Tukuafu another two-way player?
Niners coach Jim Harbaugh has gained a reputation for using players in non-traditional roles, and he’s doing it again with Will Tukuafu, a defensive tackle who has been spending time at fullback during San Francisco's organized team activity practice sessions.
