Jerry Jones on Tuesday second guessed Jason Garrett’s play calling in the second half of Sunday’s 34-30 loss to Detroit, saying he wished the Cowboys had kept the ball on the ground more after grabbing a 24-point advantage in the third quarter. The Dallas Morning News’ web site quoted Jones as telling KRLD-FM, “you probably do get more conservative in that situation.” Jones’ comments came one day after Garrett said basically the same thing. But instead of playing it safe and trying to run the clock, Garrett called for 12 passes and 11 runs. Each of Tony Romo’s three interceptions came in down-and-distance situations that usually call for runs. The Lions converted each of their takeaways into touchdowns as the Cowboys suffered the worst collapse in club history. “Again, if you really look hard at where we were in that third quarter, you can make a case that if you run the ball a few times and punt it, run the ball a few times and punt it, stats show that you can’t...

Garrett Wishes Cowboys Had Run More Against Lions

In what seems a fairly obvious conclusion to draw following the Cowboys’ record setting collapse against Detroit on Sunday, Dallas head coach Jason Garrett told reporters on Monday that, yes, the team probably should have relied more on the running game after jumping out to such a convincing lead. Felix Jones, Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray combined for 113 rushing yards on...

Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett Doesn't Regret Not Taking Pass Interference Penalty

A cheap second guess of Cowboys coach Jason Garrett was his decision to decline a pass interference penalty against the Lions offense with 4 minutes, 32 seconds left in the game. Dallas led 30-24 when receiver Nate Burleson was flagged for offensive pass interference on second down at the Cowboys 33. It was an incomplete pass and the Cowboys took the play rather than the penalty...

Don’t Blame Romo UPDATE

I have long suspected that Jason Garrett was an avid reader and follower of The Landry Hat. My intuition tells me that he regularly checks our beloved website to see what your esteemed writers are saying about him and his team. What is he pondering? Maybe if I keep passing I can beat my Madden record of 63 points in a game?Well, now I have proof!Clearly Garrett read my article ...

Garrett wants Cowboys to look to Patriots for inspiration

Jason Garrett wants the Dallas Cowboys to look to the New England Patriots for an example of how to bounce back from a humiliating collapse. The coach is upset his team surrendered a 24-point lead in losing to the Detroit Lions, but he was quick to point out to the Cowboys that even a paragon of NFL excellence like the Patriots sometimes fails to protect comfortable cushions. In...

Bill Cowher, Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Question Jason Garrett's Play-calling

While Tony Romo has been criticized for the interceptions he threw against the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett is taking heat for his play-calling. Both Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and CBS analyst Bill Cowher said Garrett should have run the football more when the Cowboys were ahead by 24 points."I put some of that on Jason Garrett, to be honest with you,"...

Are Romo and Garrett too close for comfort?

Bill Parcells tried to tell Cowboys fans there would be days like this, but no one wanted to listen as Tony Romo was taking the NFL by storm in 2006. Parcells was very fond of Romo from the start, but the same thing that made the quarterback special his improv work drove the former Cowboys coach nuts. He insisted many times that Romo needed to be "coached all the way through...

Extended time off for Cowboys after big collapse

So much for Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys having extra time to savor something good. Instead of a three-game winning streak, Dallas (2-2) began its bye week and extra time before playing again after the biggest collapse in the team's 52-season history. Coach Jason Garrett insisted Monday that the Cowboys will treat the 34-30 loss to Detroit the same way they do any other...

Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's Conditioning A Concern

Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com reports the thigh bruise that has lingered since the season opener has taken a lot of air out of Dez Bryant. Especially in the second half of games. Bryant could barely run during the second half of the season opener because of the thigh bruise. After sitting out Week 2, he’s been able to play the last two games, but conditioning is a concern, especially...
