The Josh Freeman experiment in Minnesota may be on hold for at least a little while. Freeman left the Vikings’ miserable Monday night loss to the Giants with concussion-like symptoms, the team announced on Wednesday. The quarterback will be reevaluated for symptoms throughout the week, making him unlikely to start for the Vikings in their divisional showdown with the Packers on Sunday night, according to NFL.com. Christian Ponder, who opened the season as the team’s starting quarterback, will handle first-team reps in practice this week and is likely to start against the Packers on Sunday. Freeman added another stinker to his disappointing season on Monday, completing just 20 of 53 passes, throwing one interception and leading the Vikings to just seven points — a punt return touchdown — in the loss. He is now completing a NFL-worst 42.7 percent of his passes this season between stints in Tampa Bay and Minnesota. Ponder hasn’t far all that much better this season, completing 59 percent of his passes while throwing two touchdowns and five interceptions. He hasn’t played for the Vikings since injuring his rib in a loss to the Browns in Week 3. Matt Cassell is also on the roster, but a dismal two-interception performance against the Panthers two weeks ago all but sealed his future as a starter with the Vikes.
