I wouldn’t take me in the 6th round either Juan…
I will go round by round through a draft and tell you who I like in a specific round and who I don’t like in a specific round. This may be the best way for me to help you get through your draft. Of course there is tons of goodness in the Juan’s Draft Plan as well.
I’ll Pass On Shonn Greene, Cedric Benson, Miles Austin and Vincent Jackson
I think Shonn Greene just plain sucks. He will need a massive amount of volume to generate decent stats, but I not counting on it. Benson could be a good value this season, but the 6th round? The Packers don’t run enough, use Kuhn at the stripe (when they run), and Benson has never been a huge TD guy anyway. Miles Austin’s hamstrings have become a major bother. He missed 6 games last season and parts of others, while not being very effective when he did play. I’ll pass. Finally, Vincent Jackson. V-Jax is a big, fast, talented guy, but he now has taken a step back with his QB and has never been very consistent anyway.
Not The Guy Who Made Clerks
Kevin Smith injured his ankle in the Lions 3rd preseason game, but everything checked out. I know he is an injury risk, but he is also the most talented RB that the Lions have with Best on the shelf. The Jersey Leshoure should also be on your radar, but remember he is coming back from a torn Achilles, so Smith could be the #1 guy this season. If I already had 2 really sold RBs, I might not need Smith here, but if you need a RB2 then he could be your guy in the 6th.
I’d Rather Wait On A TE
This round sees Jermichael Finley and Vernon Davis go off the board. After Hernandez goes, I’m waiting in the bushes to pounce on a TE later in the draft. Both of these guys are getting a lot of love considering they bombed in 2011.
Some Good PPR WRs To Target
Eric Decker, Stevie Johnson, and Reggie Wayne are all guys who could catch 80-90 balls this season. Decker is on the same page as Peyton and is the intermediate threat, which is where Peyton is feeling comfortable throwing. Stevie Johnson should be the same guy he was last year, so a pretty decent WR2. Wayne may be the #1 target for Andrew Luck with Collie not around and the two should be a very good combo this season.
The Biggest Upside Guy Torrey Smith
I really like Torrey Smith this season. He has worked on his route tree and looks like a guy who really worked hard to get the short to intermediate routes perfected. We know he can run the deep routes. With Flacco taking the next step and Smith getting more action in the passing game, we could be a big jump. Very solid pick at the end of the 6th round.
