New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma's defamation lawsuit against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was dismissed Thursday by Judge Helen G. Berrigan. The NFL had filed the motion on the grounds that the Collective Bargaining Agreement keeps players from suing Goodell for supensions. Goodell had suspended Vilma for the 2013 season until an arbitrator overturned it midway through the season. Berrigan agreed with the dismissal motion under federal law. Vilma's lawyer, Peter Ginsberg, told ProFootballTalk.com that Vilma is considering his options. He has 30 days to appeal. According to the lawsuit, Vilma claimed Goodell told lies about him and his involvement in the bounty case that rocked the Saints franchise.
