Check it out.

New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck will be wearing a new foul-proof facemask when the season starts.

It’s designed to send a message to opponents: “Go ahead, just try to stick your fingers inside. I’ll take them with me.”

Tuck introduced an upgraded facemask last October when he suspected opponents tried to aggravate his neck injury by sticking their fingers in his old facemask and pulling. It looked like a grill.

So the new design for the 2012-13 season is clearly over-the-top.

  • Is that silver thing up above the grill there even moveable? If not, how's he supposed to see through that thing, it looks almost like that solid bit of it would be at eye level....
  • that silver thing is in the back of the helmet...
  • It's made out of the same material as Doc Brown's sunglasses at the very end of "Back To The Future". You can totally see through it. Just kidding. It's the interior padding at the rear of the helmet, goof.

  • The silver thing is the inside rear padding of the helmet, Nuadormac.
  • Seems like he could attach a clear visor to the back of a 3 bar mask instead of adding 7 pounds of steel. It also seems counter productive to increase helmet weight to avoid a neck injury.

Good luck finding the ball if there's a fumble.

  • you have never worn a football helmet if you think the bars are made from steel. it is made from a lightweight material.
  • That is a pad at the back of the helmet.
  • Why not make it out of a CLEAR thick tough plastic so that he can see?
  • That silver thing is at the back of the helmet
  • Looks a little over the top to me.
  • That facemask puts the "fence" in defense. Talk about a grill.
