According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco 49ers haven’t started any contract talks with quarterback Alex Smith. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has confirmed that he wants to bring Smith back for next season.
Harbaugh may want to re-sign Smith, but if a team comes in and makes Smith an offer that he can’t refuse and the 49ers won’t match, he might be headed elsewhere.
Somehow, Colin Kaepernick got the impression that the 49ers' QB position is "an open job." That's not the message from coach Jim Harbaugh, who continues to call Alex Smith his guy. All the Niners have to do is sign him.
