The Kansas City Chiefs wore entirely red uniforms for the first time in their long history on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.Red clad fans packed the home opener against America’s team. The decibel level was reminiscent of the mid 1990s and in the end the Cowboys went back to Dallas seeing red. Head coach Andy Reid grinded out a victory and defeated the Cowboys 17-16. The first home opener the Chiefs have been victorious in since 2010.Every win in the NFL is a precious thing, however this game was very indicative of the score.Dallas wideout Dez Bryant scorched Chiefs' corner Brandon Flowers for over 100 yards receiving in the first half. However, late in the game Bryant dropped a wide open pass, from quarterback Tony Romo. If the pass had been caught, the Cowboys may have won the game.Romo was pressured at crucial times. Chiefs nose tackle Dontari Poe is proving all the critics wrong, and had another great week penetrating the defensive line. Safety Eric Berry also came up big harassing Dallas’ All-Pro tight end, Jason Witten.Quarterback Alex Smith showed a lot of moxie on the opening drive using his legs to run for 40 yards and literally willing his team to a touchdown. He also threw touchdown passes to Jamaal Charles and a crucial pass to take the lead to Dwayne Bowe.Andy Reid coached this game close to the vest. He waited patiently for Dallas to make mistakes, which they did. Running back Lance Dunbar had a costly fumble. And Reid also leaned heavily on the best punter in the league, Dustin Colquitt to pin Dallas again and again deep.Reid’s game management was top notch. He used Charles to eat clock and while he is an offense-first coach, he leaned on his defense in the end to finish Dallas off. Reid has won more games against Dallas than any other currently active coach. This was a huge win for the Chiefs even if they were perhaps not the best team on the field. Ugly wins like this help build a team for success, and get the players believing in themselves.Reid returns to Philadelphia Thursday evening to take on the team he built. The Eagles and Chiefs will go to battle in a midweek game. Let the hype begin.Regardless the 2-0 Chiefs have already won more games than they did all of last year. Blow the dust off the red bandwagon, it maybe time to fire it up.
